De 29e Roelanddropping vond plaats in de prachtige omgeving van Gooik, de parel van het Paiottenland, met aankomst in Strijland.
Hier staat ook de molen waar "kapitein Zeppos" destijds woonde tijdens de opnames van de bekende gelijknamige jeugdreeks. (foto)
Gooik ligt in het zuidwesten van de provincie Vlaams-Brabant op zowat 25 km van Brussel. De gemeente telt ongeveer 8.800 inwoners. Gooik bestaat uit de deelgemeenten Gooik, Oetingen, Kester en Leerbeek, al verdient het gehucht Strijland zeker ook een naamvermelding binnen de fusiegemeente. Het reliëf van Gooik is licht golvend. De hoogste heuvel is de Kesterheide, 112 meter boven de zeespiegel.
Ontdanks het feit dat er minder bossen aanwezig zijn, met uitzondering van het Neigembos is het toch een zeer aangename wandelstreek. Ook moutain-biken en Geuze drinken is hier een zeer geliefde bezigheid.
Zeer uitgestrekte akkers spreiden zich uit over het glooiende landschap. Ook de weergoden waren ons dit jaar zeer gunstig gezind. Een heldere (door de halve maan verlichte) droge nacht bij een lekkere vriestemperatuur van ongeveer -5° C. creerde een zeer goed wandelklimaat met goed zicht in het donker. Hierdoor liepen de ploegen vlotter binnen dan de voorbije jaren.
